With hazardous driving conditions being reported and highway closures beginning in the region, Sunrise School Division has made the decision to cancel bus transportation for the end of the day. While weather reports indications conditions may improve this afternoon we cannot be certain of what to expect.
We are asking parents to pick up their children at school at any time before the regular end‑of‑day dismissal. If parents are unable to pick up their children safely by the end of day, students will remain at school and be supervised by staff until a safe pick-up can be facilitated.
We understand that this decision may be frustrating, as it removes buses from the road while placing additional family vehicles on the road. However, the Division’s concern is the safety risks created when buses must stop on highways and mile roads to drop students off, particularly when visibility is poor for approaching traffic. There is also an increased risk when students may need to be on or cross the highway.
